Merle was far from perfect but no doubt he was changing in the end. And people like to think if Daryl but don’t consider Merle took the blunt of there impactful childhood. I've known a few guys like evil Ed. They were always a little 'off' and seemed like they could go off at any time; like ticking time-bombs of insanity. The actor did an excellent job at capturing that energy; one of the saddest parts of the film is how Ed is lured in and turned by Dandrige. You can tell Ed's been the "weird kid" and was ostracized; it's a perfect scenario for how a vampire would really attract people to be turned by appealing to their greatest needs.
